For the resort 2013 collections, many designers have set their sights waist down for statement pieces.
One pant to make a surprising comeback is the gaucho. The wide-legged, cropped trouser was seen at Celine, Louis Vuitton, and Acne. Phoebe Philo at Celine opted for the usual flowing, silk scarf-print pants. Marc Jacobs focused on a more classically elegant pant, with tailored tops and matching vests. For Acne’s line, designer Jonny Johansson paired simple khaki gauchos with lace-up boots, funky hats, and bizarre money-printed jackets.
The patterned pant was another favorite for the season. Altazurra took safari chic to a new level with their printed slacks in Ikat and Aztec patterns. Lanvin released some dropped crotch sporty pants in a trippy graphic. Sachin & Babi focused on super thin cigarette pants, while Ports 1961 went for a vintage feel, mixing wide-legged flares in an oversized print with a button-up blouse. Valentino kept things more glamorous with peplum tops and matching pant suits for the perfect amount of femininity.
Pants were even styled under skirts and dresses. At Marc Jacobs, print mixing and wild color stories played throughout the collection’s entirety, while knee-length dresses were matched with wide pants in similar hues. Ralph Lauren and Antonio Marras each paired sleek skinny trousers with fitted dresses for their resort looks.
