Summer Trends: A Minimalist Accessories Approach

This spring and summer has entailed many bold and colorful trends. From “shoulder duster” earrings to graphic bags, it is clear that the warmer months have given us the opportunity to make some very big statements. While some are using the “go big or go home” mentality with their accessories, there are many minimalists out there who choosing to follow other popular trends instead.

As pointed out on Vogue’s website, one of our favorite 90s trends: the choker, is making a comeback bigger than ever. Although German fashion blogger Xenia van der Woodsen is not related to the character Serena from “Gossip Girl,” she very well could be! She has been showing off her amazing style on Instagram and her blog. Just one look at her Instagram, and you can tell that Xenia has been a fan of the choker trend. In one photo, she is wearing an off-the-shoulder, striped blouse with a matching choker. The neutral colors within the ensemble gave her outfit a simplistic nature. This accessory pairs nicely with the off-the-shoulder trend because it brings attention to the neckwear in an elegant way. If the choker trend isn’t simplistic enough for you, double bone horn necklaces are another great option! Models Candice Swanpoel and Paige Watkins were seen wearing this accessory with low-cut tops. The subtle curve will add a simple, yet unique aspect to your look!

Espadrille-inspired flats and heels should be on a minimalist’s shopping list this summer. Fashion and interior design blogger Aimee Song constantly shows off her love for this trend on her Instagram. For example, while in London, Song posed wearing a dark dress with white, pointed heels that were held onto her ankles by white fabric. This style added a fun element to her classic look. One more popular accessory is yet another comeback from the 90s: the anklet. This is one of the best “it” items for your feet this spring and summer because it acts as the perfect minimalist detail to any wardrobe.

Even if you aren’t into contemporary accessories, taking a break from those heavy, long earrings may be a good idea! These unique accessories can add the perfect amount of detail to your look, without being too distracting.
